Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda today assured journalists of holding the December 30 general election in a festive mood.

‘A huge number of candidates are taking part in this election…and the voters will cast their votes in a free, fair and festive atmosphere,’ he told reporters at Agargaon’s Nirbachan Bhaban here two days before the 11th parliamentary election, reports the BSS.

Turning down the apprehension of BNP and opposition that untoward incident may take place on polls’ day, he said: ‘We’re ready and this (BNP’s perception) will be false’.

Nurul Huda urged the members of the law enforcement agencies to ensure overall security for voters so that they can exercise their franchise to choose their desired candidates.

About the security of minorities, he categorically drew attention of the members of the law enforcement agencies so that they can vote for their favorite candidates and return homes safely.

‘The polls campaign ended at 8 am today. I hope that the country’s people, especially voters, can go for voting at their respective polls centres and return homes safely,’ the CEC said.

Nurul Huda will hold a press conference at 3 pm on Saturday to present the countrywide overall polls situation and seek cooperation of all, including the candidates and voters.
