Government of India has launched ‘Operation Insaniyat’ in response to the humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh on account of the recent influx of displaced persons from the Rakhine State in Myanmar.  

The first tranche of relief materials was flown in to Chittagong by Indian Air Force on 14 and 15 September.  The aircraft delivered a total of 107 tons of relief material consisting of 9206 family packs. These were handed over to Obaidul Quader, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, by the High Commissioner of India. The relief material has since been handed over to District administration in Cox’s Bazar for distribution to the displaced persons.

A second tranche of relief supplies arrived on Thursday morning at Chittagong Port on board Indian Naval Ship GHARIAL. The relief material, comprising of 62,000 family packs, was handed over by the High Commissioner of India to Mohammad Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong. Each 15-kilo family pack gifted by ‘the people of India’ has been specially configured to meet the essential requirements of a family of five to six members. The packs consist of rice, pulses, salt, sugar, cooking oil, tea, milk powder, biscuits as well as mosquito nets and soaps.

The total relief material comprising of 71,200 family packs has been planned to cater for all families who have recently been displaced from Myanmar. The Government of India continues to support and stand beside the Bangladesh government in this hour of need.
