India relaxes rules for walk-in tourist visa for Bangladeshi nationals
As part of the ongoing to initiatives to liberalise, streamline and ease access to Indian visa for Bangladeshi nationals, tourist visa applicants with confirmed air tickets to India can walk-in and submit their visa applications up to three months in advance from their date of journey to India.
As per existing provisions, applicants were allowed to walk-in and submit applications up to a month in advance from the date of journey to India, says a press release issued by the Indian High Commission.
This relaxation will come into effect from 1 April 2017 at 8 Indian Visa Application Centers (IVACs) outside Dhaka in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Chittagong, Khulna, Jessore, Mymensingh, Barisal and 1 IVAC in Dhaka at Mirpur.
The walk-in tourist visa scheme was first launched in October 2016 for women travelers and their family members in Dhaka and was subsequently extended to all applicants and all IVACs outside of Dhaka. Under the scheme, applicants with confirmed journey tickets (By Air, Train and authorized Bus services) can walk-in and submit Tourist visa applications for themselves and family members at 9 IVACs without prior online appointment dates. IVAC Mirpur is exclusively open for women applicants on Saturdays.
These measures have been aimed at easing access to Indian visa and strengthening people-to-people contacts between India and Bangladesh, the press release added.
