20pc pregnant women affected by diabetes
Dhaka: Twenty pregnant women among every 100 are affected by diabetes during their pregnancy which later turns into Type-2 diabetes.
In many cases, there is a probability that the child of a diabetic woman will be affected by diabetes.
The information was disclosed at a discussion held at BIRDEM Hospital auditorium in Dhaka marking the World Diabetes Day-2017.
Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) organized the discussion where State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Minister Meher Afroz Chumki spoke as the chief guest.
BADAS Secretary General Md Saifuddin, BADAS Director General Dr Nazmun Nahar, Diabetic Samity Laboratory Development Project Director Dr Shuvagata Chowdhury, among others, also addressed the meeting with BADAS President Professor AK Azad Chowdhury in the chair.
"Awareness and planned pregnancy can protect the women and their children from the disease," Chumki said, adding a diabetic patient may also suffer from many other diseases including heart, kidney and eye problems.
