World Cancer Day Thursday
Dhaka: The World Cancer Day will be observed in the country on Thursday as elsewhere across the globe to raise awareness on cancer and its prevention.
The theme of this year’s day is: ‘We can, I can’ exploring how everyone, as a collective or as individuals, can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
According to data of the World Health Organization, around 8.2 million people die each year from cancer, an estimated 13 percent of all deaths worldwide.
Various organisations, including Bangladesh Cancer Society, have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
National Institute Cancer Research and Hospital will organise a daylong programme. Health Minister Mohammed Nasim will inaugurate the programmes.
A discussion will be held at the hospital in the afternoon where Nasim will speak as the chief guest.
