World Cancer Day today
Dhaka: The World Cancer Day is being observed on Thursday in the country as elsewhere across the globe to raise awareness on cancer and its prevention.
The day’s theme this year is ‘We can. I can’, exploring how everyone– as a collective or as individuals– can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
According to data of the World Health Organization, around 8.2 million people die of cancer every year, an estimated 13 per cent of all deaths worldwide.
Various organisations, including Bangladesh Cancer Society, have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital will organise a daylong programme, reports UNB.
Health Minister Mohammed Nasim will inaugurate the programmes.
A discussion will be held at the hospital in the afternoon where Nasim will speak as the chief guest.
