World Diabetes Day being observed today
Dhaka: Danish pharmaceuticals manufacturer Novo Nordisk, the world’s largest insulin maker, is celebrating the World Diabetes Day on Monday to create awareness among people on healthy lifestyle for better management of all types of diabetes.
In Bangladesh, Novo Nordisk participated in 103 rallies organised across the country with different associations affiliated with Bangladesh Diabetic Samity (BADAS) on the occasion.
The biggest rally was organised in front of National Museum by BADAS in association with Novo Nordisk. The country’s top healthcare professionals, people living with diabetes and employees of Novo Nordisk participated in the rally.
Novo Nordisk also organised a motivational programme for the children living with diabetes in Birdem Hospital at Segun Bagicha, which is the world’s largest clinic for the children.
Prof A.K. Azad Khan, president of BADAS, said, ‘To control and prevent the growth of diabetes, awareness is the main catalyst.’
A Rajan Kumar, managing director of Novo Nordisk, said, ‘ Our ultimate aim is to create awareness on diabetes and its symptoms and contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals and to ensure more people can live a life free of complications related to diabetes.’
This year’s slogan of International Diabetes Federation on WDD is ‘eyes on diabetes’, while Novo Nordisk’s jingle is ‘know your risk’, Dr. Mohammad Saiful, head of marketing of Novo Nordisk, said.
Bangladesh was among the top ten countries in terms of people living with diabetes as 7.1 million of its people were living with diabetes in, according to International Diabetes Federation.
