Chittagong: At least five passengers were injured as a Chittagong-bound train derailed at Mirsarai in Chittagong on early Monday.

Railway officials said fishplate removal from the railway lines at Bartakia at about 3:00am by suspected pickets prompted the accident amid countrywide hartal imposed by 20-Party Alliance.

Railway communication with the city of Chittagong remained suspended till filing of this report at about 12:00 noon.

Chittagong Railway Station manager Abul Kalam Azad said two rescue trains from Pahartali and Chittagong had started rescue operations.
