A suspected gang leader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with law enforcers at Amtali upazila in Barguna on early Saturday.

Tipped off that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery in Gulishakhali village in the area, a team of police went to the spot at about 2:15am, said Amtali Police officer-in-charge Sukumar Roy.

Sensing the police presence, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting the police to fire back, triggering the gunfight. Mojammel, the suspected gang leader was caught in the line of fire.

Three police members were shot during the gunfight, he added.

The police members also arrested at least six people with firearms from the scene, police said.

Police said Mojammel was booked in at least 12 cases with different police stations.
