Chittagong city and district police in a series of drives detained 16 activists of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir from different areas of Chittagong city and district on Tuesday night.

Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district said police nabbed 16 activists in overnight raids at various places of Mirsari, Sitakunda, Satkania and Lohagara upazilas on Tuesday night.

Chittagong Metropolitan police in a series of drives arrested two Islami Chhatra Shibir activists from a separate area of the city today.

Among the detainees, eight were Jamaat activists, five Islami Chhatra Shibir activists and three BNP activists, the police officer said adding that they were detained to prevent possibleacts of sabotage during country-wide blockade and hartal enforcedby BNP-led 20 party alliance.
