Death row war crimes convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman will file a review petition against the Appellate Division verdict upholding the judgment of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 that had condemned him to death, said his lawyers.

Talking to reporters at the gate of Dhaka Central Jail after meeting Kamazruzzaman, his counsels said they would file the review petition within 15 days of getting the certified copy of the verdict of the Appellate Division.

Earlier, five lawyers, led by Tajul Islam, entered the jail at about 10:40am, said senior jail super of the central jail Forman Ali.

They spent about half an hour with Kamaruzzaman and got out of the jail at about 11:10am, added Forman Ali.

The other lawyers are Ihsan A Siddique, Shishir M Monir, M Moshiul Alam and Matiur Rahman Akand.

Earlier on Thursday, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 issued a death warrant for Kamaruzzaman after receiving the full text of the Supreme Court verdict that upheld his death penalty for his crimes against humanity during 1971.

On the same day, the prison authorities read out the death warrant to Kamaruzzaman.

On May 9, 2013, the tribunal condemned Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general M Kamaruzzaman, a 1971 operator of infamous Al Badr vigilante outfit, to death for his crimes against humanity, including murder, abduction, torture, rape and mass killing during the Liberation War.

On November 3 last year, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 that had condemned the Jamaat leader to death.
