N’ganj explosion burn victim dies

Narayangaj: A burn victim, who was injured in an explosion that took place at an NGO office at Fatulla, died undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital burn unit at about 6:15am on Monday.

The deceased is Nasir Uddin, 30, a resident of Fazilpur in Fatulla, also an electrician.

Harunur Rashid, Nasir’s brother, told NTV Online that his two brothers with four other were admitted to DMCH burn unit at about 7:00am on Sunday after the explosion. 

His brother, Aslam, who is also an electrician, was critically injured due to the explosion. Around 80% of his body was burnt in the fire.

DMCH burn unit resident surgeon Partha Shankar Paul said Nasir Uddin died this morning as 95% of his body was burnt.

Six people were burnt in an explosion that took place at the ground floor of a four-storey building at Panchabati of Fatulla in Narayanganj on Sunday evening.

The burnt are NGO office assistant manager Abdul Alim, employee Mizan, Sohel, Mizanur Rahman, Omar Faruk, Electric mechanic Aslam and Arman.

Surgeon Parth Shankar said conditions of Aslam, Sohel, Mizanur Rahman, and Ferdous Arman are critical, but Abdul Alim is out of danger.  

Local people said an explosion took place at Narayanganj branch office of Society for Social Service (SSS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), at Ruposhi Housing about 7:15pm.

The locals doused the fire before the fire fighters reached the spot.

Fatulla Model police inspector Abdur Razzak told NTV Online the burnt were primarily taken to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital. Later, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

At least 15 people were also injured while rushing out of the building.

Police claimed that the explosion originated from short circuit.
