80 held with firearms, bullets
Chittagong: Police held 72 ‘Islami Chhatra Shibir’ activists and recovered nine firearms and over 100 bullets in a drive at Chittagong Government College hall area on Wednesday.
Later, police also detained eight suspected Shibir activists from Government Mohsin College hall while they were runing away from the spot.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kotowali Zone assistant commissioner Shah Mohammad Abdur Rauf said police conducted an overnight raid from 2:00am to 8:00am at Shahid Suhrawardi and Sher-e-Bangla Halls of the college.
The recovered arms and ammunition includes AK-22, 303 riffle, three single barrel guns, two guns, five rocket players and more than 100 rounds.
CMP Detective Branch Additional Deputy Commissioner SM Tanvir Arafat told NTV Online the raid was conducted after being tipped off that huge arms and ammunition were hidden in the area.
He said the arms, ammunition were kept underground near the college hall area. He claimed the arrestees are Chhatra Shibir activists.
