Gazipur: At least 25 houses and five shops were gutted as a fire broke out in Harinahati area of Kaliakoir upazila in the early hours of Monday.

Fire fighters said the fire broke out in a house of local Shah Alam in the area around 2:00am and engulfed the adjoined establishment which burned down 25 houses and five shops.

Fire fighters from Gazipur Fire Station went to the spot and doused the blaze after one and half hours.

The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
