‘Dhaka-Delhi relationship at its best’

Dhaka: India has described its current relations with Bangladesh as the 'best' comparing anytime in the past.
‘With Bangladesh, you're aware that India and Bangladesh relationship is today amongst the best it has been,’ said Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, India.
He made the remark when a reporter wanted to know the outcome of Indian foreign secretary S Jaishankar's recent visit to Bangladesh and Pakistan, according to the MEA.
Akbaruddin said they are working with Bangladesh on a host of issues, including river waters, border management, economic ties, global cooperation in international relations, and development partnership. ‘All these were discussed.’
He also said the foreign secretary's visit was in the context of a Saarc Yatra, which meant that the primary focus of the interactions was, how they take forward the visionary proposals that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had put forth in his statement during the Kathmandu summit.
‘Therefore, there was a lot of discussion on some of those specificities. For example, the Saarc satellite. Another example is vaccine which India is offering to do. A third is the South Asian University,’ he said adding that of course when the foreign secretary visits these countries (Saarc) he will certainly discuss bilateral issues.
The spokesperson said as diplomats they take every opportunity to utilise time and space to push their interests. ‘Therefore, with Pakistan and with Bangladesh bilateral issues were discussed, all aspects of those bilateral issues.’
The regular briefing was held at the MEA on Wednesday.
