Dhaka: The government has so far given permission to 1,967 newspapers for publication across the country, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu told parliament on Sunday.

Responding to a scripted question from independent member M Rustom Ali Farazi, the information minister said 902 newspapers are coming out daily out of 1,967 newspapers.

He said 374 daily newspapers are being published in the capital city, of which 140 newspapers are in the media list, while 234 daily newspapers are out of the media list.

Besides, 528 daily regional newspapers have been publishing in different districts of the country. A total of 218 regional daily newspapers are in the media list, while 310 regional daily newspapers are out of the media list..
