In a dramatic turn of event security in the Dhaka central jail has been relaxed again, hours after positioning extra forces in the area and taking preparatory activities apparently as a move to execute the death row convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.

The entrance of senior administrative officials, physicians, ambulances, trolley with bamboos, and ladders into the jail had created much speculation about Kamaruzzaman’s execution among the journalists waiting outside.

Besides State Minister for Home Minister for Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan’s remark that authorities were taking preparations to execute the Jamaat-e-Islami leader since he did not seek presidential mercy had prompted different media to run news of Kamaruzzman’s possible execution at Friday night.

But, at about 9:00pm Lalbagh zone police deputy commissioner Mohammad Mafiz Uddin Ahmed and senior jail super Forkan Ali came out of the jail. Both of them had gone inside three hours earlier.

Later at 10:00pm two ladders were taken out of the jail gate and vehicular movement was made normal in the area.
