Dhaka: Chittagong University former vice-chancellor Professor Abdul Mannan joined the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh as its 12^th chairman on Thursday afternoon.  

Prof Mannan replaced Professor A K Azad Chowdhury, whose tenure ended on the day, said a press release from the UGC.  

He served the Chittagong University as its vice-chancellor during the period of 1996 to 2001. He was a part-time Member of UGC.  

Prof Mannan started his career joining the Department of Management of Chittagong University in 1973 as a Lecturer. He held various important posts in his professional life.

Meanwhile, the farewell ceremony of outgoing UGC chairman Prof A K Azad Chowdhury held on Thursday.  

UGC Officers’ Association and UGC Karmachari Union jointly organised the farewell ceremony at the UGC auditorium.

UGC Members --Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem and Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, spoke on the occasion.
