Dhaka: Five people were killed when lightning struck them in Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Meherpur districts on Sunday.

Police said the lightning followed by rain and storm hit two persons at about 9:00am when they were in a field at Manikpur village under South Surma upazila in Sylhet district. Both of them died on the spot.

The deceased were Ali Hossain, and a ten year old boy of the same village.

In another incident, thunderbolt struck farmer Abdul Ali, in his forties, at Rajapur village at Srimangal in Moulvibazar at about 8:00am, leaving him dead on the spot, said Abdul Motaleb, local Union Council chairman.

Besides, two people including a woman lost their lives being hit by thunderbolt this morning in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district, police source said.

The deceased were Atiar Rahman of Chargoal village and Bilkis Khatun of Kajipur village of the same upazila.
