Charges against 5 war criminals taken into cognizance

Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 1 took into cognizance seven charges of crimes against humanity against five alleged war criminals from Kishoreganj.
A three-member ICT panel led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Wednesday morning.
According to the prosecution, Gazi Abdul Mannan, in his eighties, the alleged commander of Karimganj Razakar camp in Kishoreganj, his cohorts Nasiruddin Ahmed, believed to be 62, and his brother Shamsuddin Ahmed, in his sixties, Hafiz Uddin, and Azharul Islam, were involved in crimes like mass killing, torture and arson.
Of the five, only Shamsuddin is in jail now as the law enforcers failed to arrest the others.
The prosecution on 10 May submitted the formal charge against the five, bringing seven charges of crimes against humanity. The tribunal set 31 May as the next date of hearing.
