ICT sends 4 war crime accused to jail

Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2 sent Jinnat Ali, Maulavi Osman Gani, Nurul Islam and Badshah Miah, who allegedly acted as leaders of notorious Razakar Bahini in Maheshkhali upazila, Cox’s Bazar, during the War of Independence in 1971, to jail.
The tribunal passed the order as police produced them before the court on Sunday morning.
Earlier on 21 May, ICT 2 issued warrant to arrest 16 alleged Razakars including this four.
‘The investigation officer found involvement of these 16 with crimes against humanity as he was carrying out his probe against three Cox’s Bazar Razakars Salamat Ullah Khan, Abdur Rashid and Maulavi Jakaria. That is why, for the greater interest of justice, we are trying to make them to face the trial,’ said Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta.
Earlier on 1 March, the tribunal issued arrest warrant against Salamat Ullah Khan, Abdur Rashid and Maulavi Jakaria and police on the same day arrested the first two and produced them before the court the next day.
The tribunal also asked the investigation agency to conclude their probe against these 19 by 16 July.
