Two persons were arrested at Eidgah area in Cox’s Bazar sadar on Tuesday night over people smuggling allegations.

Rapid Action Battalion 7 placed them before media at a press conference in the district town on Wednesday and claimed that Nur Hafez and Hasan Sharif from Teknaf’s Shahpari island were involved in people smuggling for many years.

RAB also said that they had seized Tk 2 lakh and nine mobiles in possession of the duo.

The suspected smugglers used to demand ransom from the families of the victims too, added RAB 7 Cox’s Bazar camp commander Major Zia.
