Attack on prayer houses crime against humanity

Dhaka: From now on attack on prayer houses, religious groups and hindrance in performing funeral rituals will be considered as crimes against humanity and the trial for the crimes will be conducted at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
ICT-1 said this in the death verdict on war crimes convict Syed Hasan Ali of Kishoreganj.
Chaired by Judge M Enayetur Rahim, the tribunal included judges Jahangir Hossain and Anwarul Haque.
Barrister Tureen Afroz said, ‘Everyone has the right to get funeral rituals as per one’s religion. If anyone is deprived of this right and also, attacks are carried on prayer houses, these will be considered as crimes against humanity.’
‘The tribunal has also said that mental oppression, alongside physical one, will also be considered as oppression,’ added Turren Afroz.
The tribunal sentenced Hasan Ali to death as five charges out of six were proved against him. Among the five charges, he was given imprisonment till death in three, while death in two others.
