N’ganj housewife ‘burned to death’

Narayanganj: A housewife was burned to death allegedly by her husband and in-laws at Dewbhog Bhuiyerbag in Narayanganj on Wednesday.
The victim was Ankhi Akhter, reportedly 35 years old, was the wife of Qaiyum, a resident of the area.
Robin Kazi, brother of Ankhi said Qaiyum, son of late Abdul Karim had married Ankhi 12 years back. The victim’s family alleged that Qaiyum used to beat Ankhi over family feuds since their marriage.
Ankhi, a mother of three children, had an altercation with Qaiyum on Tuesday night.
At one stage, Qaiyum along with his family beat Ankhi mercilessly, leaving her critically injured. They also poured petrol over Ankhi body and set fire to her at night, claimed Ankhi’s family.
Later she was whisked off to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.
Fatullah police sub-inspector Jinnah said police held Ankhi’s mother-in-law and her three sister-in-law as the male members of the family went into hiding after the incident.
