War crimes trial: Forkan verdict any day

Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday kept pending its verdict to be delivered any day after closing arguments in the trial of 1971 war crimes allegedly perpetrated by Forkan Mallik of Patuakhali.

Hearing the law point arguments from both the prosecution and the defence lawyers, the three-member ICT-2 led by its chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the order.

Forkan, an alleged Razakar, is facing five charges, including mass killing, looting and arson attack, during the Liberation War.

The trial of war crimes accused Forkan Mallik started on 20 January and ended on 19 April.  

On 2 December 2014, The International Crimes Tribunal-2 took cognisance of the charges brought against detained Forkan Mallik.

On 27 October, the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunals finalised its investigation report against war crimes-suspect Forkan, also a former activist of Muslim League (Convention) in Pakistan period that opposed the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

On 25 June 2014, Detective Branch of police arrested Forkan from Rupatali Bus Stand area in Barisal following a warrant issued against him for his alleged involvement in war crimes.
