Court rejects appeal plea of lawmaker’s son
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Tuesday rejected the appeal petition filed by Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son, Bakhtiar Alam Rony, in connection with a double murder.
Dhaka chief judicial magistrate court judge Aminul Islam rejected the appeal plea after conducting a hearing at about 11:30am. Earlier on 13 June, Rony’s counsel advocate Shawkat Osman filed the appeal petition.
Senior assistant police commissioner Mirash Uddin opposed the appeal petition on behalf of the prosecution. He said after hearing the statement of both sides Rony is charged for the double murder and the court rejected plea.
On 14 April, Rony opened random fire from a black Land Cruiser Prado while he was stuck in a traffic jam and left an auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali and rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim injured.
Later, Hakim died undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 15 April and Yakub died on 23 April.
On 15 April Hakim’s mother Monowara Begum filed a case with Ramna police against unidentified people.
Police, on 31 May, arrested Awami League general secretary Pinu Khan’s son, Rony, and his driver, Imran Fakir.
Police said Rony was using his mother’s Prado car during the incident.
Bakhtiar in quizzing admitted that he shot the victims by a licensed pistol in a drunken state, added police.
