Narayanganj: A Narayanganj court on Wednesday sentenced Twaki’s father Rafiur Rabbi, also Santras Nirmul Tawki Mancha convener, to one year imprisonment in a case filed for cheque fraudulence.

The court also fined him Tk 2.10 crore.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mamunur Rashid passed the order in the afternoon.

Court sources said one Jalaluddin, son of Sanuruddin, a resident of North Chashara, filed the case with Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against Rabbi accusing him of cheating over two cheques worth Tk 70 lakh in 2012.

Rabbi and his lawyer Advocate Awlad Hossain were not present in the dock during the hearing.

However, lawyer Awlad Hossain said they will file a petition against the court order as it passed the order in absence of Rabbi.
