Govt out to destroy BNP’s young leadership: Juba Dal
Dhaka: Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, the youth associate body of BNP, on Tuesday alleged that the government is conspiring to destroy BNP’s young leadership with the help of its ‘puppet’ administration.
‘The government has long been conspiring to destroy BNP and politics by maligning the young leadership of BNP’s different associate bodies, including Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal,’ said Juba Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal.
He also alleged that the current ‘autocratic’ regime’s main target is to give people a negative impression about BNP’s young leadership so that it can hang onto power without any trouble.
Alal came up with the allegation at a press conference arranged at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office protesting the arrest of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) president, Rajib Ahsan, on a ‘false’ charge.
On 19 July, law enforcers arrested Rajib and his five associates reportedly with 45 Yaba tablets and a bottle of hard liquor in a car at Lebukhali Ferryghat in Dumki upazila. Dumki police officer-in-charge Azam Khan filed a case against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
The Juba Dal president said the allegation of recovering drug from Rajib’s car is not true. ‘We think this false allegation was brought as part of the government’s blueprint to annihilate BNP’s future leadership.’
He claimed that all know the culprits involved in peddling drug and Yaba tablets belong to the ruling party.
Instead of arresting the ruling party’s Cox’s Bazar MP, his wife and relatives for indulging in drug peddling, Alal said the government has arrested Rajib only to tarnish his image.
‘They [govt], in the name of development and democracy, are establishing bad politics to perpetuate their power,’ he observed.
He claimed that 20 leaders and activists of Juba Dal were killed and made disappeared during BNP’s anti-government movement.
The Juba Dal chief said many top leaders of their organisation are on the run facing ‘false’ political cases.
Alal demanded the government release Rajib and other leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies after withdrawing the ‘false’ cases field against them.
