Dhaka: Police held a suspected drug dealer in possession with 39,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets at BK Das Road in Old Dhaka on Thursday night.

The arrestee was identified as Sabbir Hossain, also known as Sabbir.

Briefing reporters at DMP media centre in the city on Friday, Wari Division deputy commissioner (DC) Sayed Nurul Islam said Sabbir brought the Yaba tablets from Cox’s Bazar.

Tipped off, a team of Sutrapur thana police conducted a drive in front of Farashganj Bibika Mazar at BK Das Road at about 10:30pm and detained Sabbir when he was heading towards Shyamazar carrying the drug consignment in his motorbike, the DC Wari added.

During preliminary interrogation, Sabbir revealed that he had been involved in supplying illegal drugs, including Yaba tablets, to various districts, he said.
