Chargesheet acceptance in Rana Plaza cases 4 Oct

A Dhaka court has fixed 4 October for the approval of chargesheets in the two cases filed over Rana Plaza collapse incident.
Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday after public prosecutor failed to submit report on the involvement of four government employees in the two cases, of which one is for murder and the other filed under house building law.
Following a hearing on time extension appeal, the court fixed 4 October for the submission and approval of charge sheet, said public prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul.
Earlier on 1 June this year, Criminal Investigation Department assistant superintendent Bijay Krishna Kar submitted chargesheet against 42 persons, including Rana, the owner of the building that collapsed on its basement on 24 April 2013.
With most of the victims being garments workers, the incident killed 1134. The number of the casualties is deemed to be higher than this figure as many are still missing.
About 2000 persons were injured, while many of them were maimed for the life time.
A total of 42 people were sued over cases. Owner of the building Sohel Rana, his father Abdul Khaleque, Savar municipality chief executive officer Uttam Kumar Roy, former Municipality mayor Refat Ullah were among others.
