2 shot as Juba League procession attacked in Natore
Two activists of Bangladesh Juba League have received bullet injuries after the party’s procession came under attack in Natore.
It was alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) activists fired at the procession of local Juba League on Saturday at Tebaria in Natore Sadar.
The injured persons were named as Razib and Nazmul, both of whom are Juba League activits. Rajib’s condition was reportedly critical, and he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, while Nazmul, who was shot in the leg, was taking treatment at Natore Sadar Hospital.
Juba League leaders and activists were going to attend a rally of Natore Municipality Juba League marking the National Mourning Day at Station Bazar area. When their procession reached Mamun Bakery intersection, some unidentified persons shot fires at them injuring the duo, said Natore District Juba League acting general secretary Ehia Chowdhury, who claimed the attackers were local BNP activists.
Natore district BNP general secretary, however, denied any knowledge of the incident.
The incident was followed by angry Juba League activists vandalising several shops in the area, according to witnesses. Later law enforcers brought the situation under control.
Natore Superintendent of Police Shyamol Mukharjee said police are trying to capture the attackers.
