Young man to die for killing brother-in-law

Gazipur: A court Gazipur on Wednesday convicted a young man and sentenced him to death for killing his brother-in-law in 2010.
After examining the records and 14 witnesses, Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Hague handed down the verdict.
The court also sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing his brother-in-law’s neighbour on the same day and fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment.
The convict is Badrul Islam, hailing from Rouha village in Gafargaon upazilla of Mymensingh district.
According to the prosecution, Badrul Islam went to visit his brother-in-law Ismail’s house on 15 June 2010 at Arichpur under Tongi Police Station and wanted some money from Ismail.
As Ismail refused to give him the money Badrul hacked Ismail with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on spot.
When Ismail’s neighbour Belal came forward to save Ismail after hearing his mother’s scream, Badrul stabbed Belal, leaving him dead on spot.
Md Fazlu, brother of Belal, filed a case with Tongi Police Station on the same day.
On 16 June 2010, police arrested Badrul from his village home.
On 27 September 2011, Rajiur Rahman, sub-inspector of Tongi police station and investigative officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against Badrul.
