Bandarban: Police arrested a ward councillor and a former mayor of Bandarban municipality on early Wednesday on charge of making derogatory comments about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the social networking site Facebook.

The arrestees are Mizanur Rahman Biplab, a former mayor of Bandarban municipality and Habibur Rahman Khokon, councillor of ward-8.

A police team arrested Mizanur Rahman from in front of District Judges Court at about 3:30am.

After interrogation, police raided the house of Habibur Rahman and arrested him from his Member Para residence in the town in the wee hours on Wednesday.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Rakibullah said Mizanur Rahman and Habibur Rahman had long been making derogatory comments against Bangabandhu using fake ID, ‘Tungipara’, on the Facebook.

Besides, police seized the computer which was used for this act from a shop, ‘Ekata Printers’, in the town.

Later, they were shown arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act.

Police are also trying to arrest the other members of the group, said the OC.
