Gazipur: Police on Sunday arrested a teacher of Horimanjuri Girls’ High School at Kapasia in Gazipur on suspicion of raping a Class VII girl of the school.

The girl complained that she on Saturday late evening was on her way to a private tuition house on College Road of the town, about 43 kilometre away from the district town, when her teacher Monojit Chandra Sarkar stopped her. He took the girl to his own tuition centre and raped her, said the victim.

Kapasia police officer-in-charge Ahsan Ullah said the news spread throughout the school on Sunday morning and students later boycotted classes demanding punishment of the teacher.

Police, on information, went to the school and arrested Monojit Sarkar, who is a resident of Pirojpur area of the upazila.

The girl was taken on police custody on Sunday late afternoon. Police said the girl was scheduled to be taken to Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College on Monday.

The victim’s mother filed a case with Kapasia police in this regard. confirmed OC Ahsan Ullah.
