Special police team to probe Tavella killing
Dhaka: The police headquarters on Tuesday formed a special inquiry team to investigate the killing of Italian national Cesare Tavella.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner (Detective Branch) Monirul Islam will lead the team.
The decision was taken at a special meeting held at the police headquarters with acting IGP Mukhlesur Rahman in the chair, said assistant inspector general (Media) of the police headquarters Md Nazrul Islam.
Best, smart and skilled officers from all the police units, including special super of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Md Rezaul Haider, will assist the special investigation team, he said.
Nazrul also said the acting IGP instructed the police officers to anyhow unearth the mystery behind the killing through investigation and intelligence sharing. ‘All the police units have to take all-out efforts to prevent reoccurrence of such incident,’ he quoted the acting IGP as saying at the meeting.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, DIG (Crime) Md Helal Uddin Badri, DIG of CID Md Saiful Alam, DIG (City Special Branch) Md Mosharraf Hossain, DIG (Political) Md Mahbubur Rahman and DIG (PBI) Barrister Md Mahbubur Rahman were, among others, present at the special meeting.
Cesare Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by some miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on Monday evening.
A case was filed with Gulshan police station on Monday night. The case was transferred to DB police on Tuesday.
