Indian madrasa headmaster lynched for ‘stealing a cow’
Dhaka: The headmaster of a government primary madrasa was allegedly lynched in Manipur, India over allegations of calf theft.
The police found the bloodied and battered body of 55-year-old Md Hasmad Ali at Keirao Makating village in Manipur’s Imphal East district, reported several Indian media.
People had allegedly spotted him with a calf that went missing from one of the villager’s shed and Ali was clobbered to death by a mob, reported abplive.com.
The victim’s body was taken to hospital for autopsy while the calf is being kept at the local police station.
A Muslim organisation has refused to burry Ali’s body and sought the Centre’s intervention in this matter. The organisation called a a state-wide strikeh on Thursday.
India has been experiencing a politically charged national debate over religious intolerance for last couple of months. The incident comes in the backdrop of murder of Mohammed Akhlaq in Uttar Pradesh’s Dadri for allegedly consuming cow meat, reported india.com.
