Joypurhat: An alleged drug trader was injured in a reported gunfight with police at Fiskar Haat in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat early on Thursday.

The injured is Aynal Hossain alias Rana, reports UNB.

Police said being tipped off that a gang of drug peddlers, including Rana, was passing through the area along with drugs by a utility vehicle at about 2:05 am, police launched a drive there.

Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Rana sustained bullet injures during the gunfight while his other associates managed to flee the scene.

Later, police arrested Rana from the spot.

Rana was taken to Joypurhat Adhunik Zila Hospital from where he was shifted to Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital under police custody.

Police also recovered one kilograms of hemp from the spot.

Two police personnel-Assistant Sub-Inspector Ratan and constable Almas—were also injured during the gunfight.

Rana was wanted in five cases with Panchbibi Police Station, said police.
