Chittagong: A court in Chittagong on Tuesday granted bail to two doctors in a case filed in connection with the death of a woman after delivery on 10 January.

Metropolitan Magistrate Farid Alam passed the order as the two accused doctors–Associate Professor Mahbubul Alam of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and his wife Shamima Rozy–surrendered before the court seeking bail.

Additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kazi Muttaki Ibn Minan said the doctor couple was granted bail on a bond of Tk 5,000. Reports UNB.

The bail will remain effective till the submission of the investigation report in the case, he said.

Earlier on 19 January, Khairul Bashar, father of the deceased woman, filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station against the two doctors for the death of his daughter.

The court took cognisance of the case and asked Panchlaish Police Station to investigate the incident.

According to the complainant, his daughter Meherunnesa, an expecting mother, was admitted to Surgiscope Hospital in Panchlaish area of the city on 9 January. She was admitted there under the supervision of the two accused doctors.

On 10 January, she underwent a surgery there and gave birth to a daughter.

However, the mother continued to bleed excessively after the surgery and the doctors recommended performing another surgery on her.

The doctors reportedly asked for 12 bags of blood, whereas the family members of the patient provided 14 bags.

But in the afternoon on that day, the hospital authorities told the family members that the patient had died.
