Dhaka: BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman on Thursday complained that the government is dawdling in giving permission for a venue for BNP’s sixth national council only to put it in trouble.

‘I don’t believe the government won’t allow a powerful party like BNP to hold its council. But, they want us to fall in trouble. They’re not giving us permission only to hamper our preparations for the council,’ he said.

Noman, a BNP vice-chairman, came up with the allegation while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave along with leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, marking its 36th founding anniversary.

On January 23 this year, BNP standing committee members at a meeting decided to hold the party’s sixth national council on March 19.  Subsequently, the party sought permission from the authorities of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Suhrawardy Udyan and the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh for using any of the three as venue for the council.

Noman said police are yet to give them permission to use any of those venues.

He said their party is determined to hold the council foiling the government’s all ‘conspiracies’.

The BNP leader said huge enthusiasm has been created among the BNP leaders and activists over the council. ‘A new leadership will be created through the council as per the desire of the party grassroots.’

He also hoped that the new party leadership will play a very important role in resorting democracy in the country.
