Madrid, Spain: Three-time World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo insists he could see out the remainder of his career at Real Madrid due to his love for the Spanish capital.

The Porutuguese has been constantly linked with a move back to Manchester United or to Paris Saint-Germain despite becoming Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer with 347 goals in just seven years at the club.

And he admitted the Spanish sun and its proximity to his homeland will play a major part in his decision on whether to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he still has over two years to run on his contract.

‘I love to live in Madrid and I would love to continue living here until the end of my career because it is a country that has given me a lot of what I have,’ Ronaldo told Real’s website.

‘The people are phenomenal, it is close to Portugal and the climate is good.’

Despite his incredible goalscoring record, Ronaldo’s time at Madrid has been blighted by a lack of trophies.

The 31-year-old has only won one La Liga title and one Champions League to go with a host of individual awards.

However, he is confident his legendary status at the club is assured.

‘I always thought about coming here to show that I was the best.

‘I try to do it year after year, not just with titles but with goals and performances. Bit-by-bit I am leaving my mark everywhere I go.

‘It is always positive to know that the fans back you. I feel happy and proud when the fans chant my name.’
