25 houses torched in Habiganj over youth’s death

Habiganj: At least 25 houses were torched over the death of a young man at Chota Bahula village in Habiganj sadar upazila on Friday.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups at the village over establishing supremacy, according to a UNB report.
Following the previous enmity, one of the ears of Kutub Uddin was severed by the rivals two months ago.
In retaliation, the opponent group cut off an ear and a hand of Abdul Aziz on February 19. Aziz succumbed to his injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Friday noon.
Outraged by the death of Aziz, his group went berserk and set fire to 25 houses belonging to the rivals.
On information, two fire-fighting units from Habiganj and Shayestaganj rushed in and doused the blaze after three hours, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Nazim Uddin.
