Sirajganj: A local Awami League leader was hacked to death by miscreants at Saratail village in Shahjadpur upazila on Monday night.

Quoting locals, Shahjadpur police officer-in-charge Rezaul Haque said the deceased Kurban Ali, 40, general secretary of Kayempur union unit of AL and son of Abdul Aziz of the village, came under attack by a group of miscreants in the village at about 8:45pm on his way home from Saratail Bazar.

The attackers hacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue.

It is not still clear what caused the murder.
