Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Monday granted bail to The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam in a defamation case, reports UNB.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Iqbal Mahmud gave the order after Mahfuz appeared before his court and sought bail in the morning.

On 17 February, Amanat Hossain Khan, education secretary of Gazipur district unit Awami League, filed the defamation suit against Mahfuz with the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court for publishing ‘confusing’ and ‘defamatory’ reports in his daily on Awami League President Sheikh Hasina during the military-backed caretaker government.

Later on the day, the court summoned the accused to appear before it.
