Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recently busted an international human trafficking gang and arrested seven of its members from different parts of the country, reports BSS.

The arrested persons are Abdul Kaium, 44, from Chhagalnaiya, Feni, Khokon Ahammed Asgar, 30, from Naria, Shariatpur, Jahangir Alam, 30, from Bhairab, Kishoreganj, Nasir Uddin, 40, from Bhandaria, Pirojpur, Farukul Islam Russel, 31, from Sonagazi, Feni, Rubel Hawlader, 29, from Gopalganj, and Badal Hawlader, 35, from Mathbaria, Pirojpur.

RAB said the arrestees used to look for people wanting to go abroad in search of work. They would arrange visit visas for Sudan and send the victims there to start their long ordeal, according to a RAB press release today.

On arriving in Sudan, the gang members would snatch the passports of the victims. They beat hell out of them and made them to call their relatives back at home for ransom. The traffickers would take the victims to Libya by road and confine them there. They used to realize money from the families of the victims at different stages.

‘On many occasions, victims would die on their way to Libya. The traffickers just threw the bodies from the vehicle and ran over them,’ the release said quoting a victim.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the family of one such victim, RAB on March 12, 2016 picked up the seven gang members. After grilling them, RAB gathered information on the whereabouts of victim Somor Ali and with the information provided by the elite crimes busting agency (RAB), Bangladesh high commission in Benghazi, Libya, on Friday rescued the victim.
