Patuakhali: At least 30 people, including four policemen, were injured in a pre-election violence at Noumola in Baufal upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The injured policemen were identified as constables Mahbub, Foysal, Khairul Hasanuzzaman and Abul Hossain.

Assistant Superintendent of Police of Patuakhali Sadar Circle Shaheb Ali Pathan said the clash took place between the supporters of Awami League-nominated chairman aspirant Kamal Hossain and independent candidate Shahzada Hawlader.

Supporters of Kamal Hossain formed a human chain at Naumola Nagar Hat in the afternoon when Shahzada went there with his men.

At one stage, the two groups engaged into a series of chases and counter chases, leaving at least 26 people of both groups injured.

However, police charged baton on the agitators and brought the situation under control. Four police personnel received bullet injuries during the time.

Seriously injured, constable Mahabub was shifted to Barisal Medical College Hospital.
