Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi, on Tuesday, said he would retire from international cricket after the ICC World Twenty20 game against Australia on 25 March, reports India Today.

‘It might be the last game of my career against Australia. Let’s see how things go,’ Afridi said at the presentation ceremony after Pakistan lost to New Zealand by 22 runs at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali on Tuesday.

Pakistan had earlier lost their crunch tie against India at the Eden Gardens on Saturday after winning their opening clash against Bangladesh. Afridi failed to inspire his team with the bat falling for eight against India on a rank-turner in Kolkata.

Reports also said that the Pakistan Cricket Board was planning to sack him irrespective of the team’s performance in the remainder of the tournament.

The dashing all-rounder had come under fire from several people back in Pakistan including former captain Javed Miandad for professing his love for Indian fans after the team landed in Kolkata amidst a lot of controversies earlier this month.

Afridi, who has played, 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 97 T20Is for Pakistan, had earlier said he would bow out of international cricket at the end of the World Twenty20.

The 37-year-old has stormed into international cricket back in 1996 slamming the then fastest ODI hundred of only 37 balls.
