EC asks to file cases regarding UC poll anomalies

Dhaka: The Election Commission has issued directives for the presiding officers concerned to lodge cases in connection with election irregularities in 51 polling stations.

‘The EC issued the directives to file cases regarding anomalies in 51 polling stations on Thursday,’ Deputy Secretary of the EC Secretariat Shamsul Alam told UNB.

The 51 polling stations include two in Dighalia Upazila of Khulna, four each in Kaukhali and Mathbaria and one in Bhandaria Upazila of Pirojpur, one in Kamalnagar of Laxmipur, one in Barguna sadar, four in sadar and three in Daulatkhan of Bhola, two in Debidwar of Comilla, two in Subarnachar of Noakhali, one in Kalapara, three in Dashmina, five in Galachipa, two in Bauphal and one in Sadar of Patuakhali, one in Bancharampur of Brahmanbaria, one in Maheshkhali of Cox’s Bazar, one in Ujirpur, two in Agailjhara, two each in sadar, Bakerganj and Babuganj, one each in Mehendiganj and Banaripara of Barisal, and one in Sylhet Sadar.

In the directives, the Commission asked the presiding officer to file cases accusing identified and non-indentified responsible persons.

Earlier on Tuesday night, the Commission asked the presiding officers of 11 other polling stations in Satkhira to case lawsuits in connection stuffing fake ballots at the previous night.

It also directed the government administration to suspend police officials deployed in the 11 polling stations.
