Dhaka: The Election Commission on Sunday announced the 4th phase of elections to 743 Union Parishads, fixing May 7 for balloting.
According to the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination paper is May 7 while the nomination papers will be scrutinised on April 10 and 11, and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is April 18.
The polls symbols will be distributed among the candidates on April 19, said Director (Public Relations) of the Election Commission Secretariat SM Asaduzzman.

As part of a plan to arrange elections to 4,275 out of the country’s 4,546 Union Parishads in six phases, the EC has earlier announced schedule for the first three phases to hold the balloting in some 2100 UPs.

The first phase of the UP election has already been held on March 22. The 2nd phase election to some 650 UPs will be held on March 31, while the 3rd phase polls to some 650 other UPs on April 23.

Besides, the EC has a plan to arrange election in 714 on May 28 in 5th phase, and in 660 UPs on June 4 in the 6th phase.
