Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged all individuals and organisations to stand beside the country’s flood victims with relief materials.

‘The Prime Minister has requested all individuals and organisations to stand beside the flood-hit people with dry foods and other relief materials,’ the PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said in a press release.

The Prime Minister’s call came amid the deteriorating flood situation in the country’s 16 districts, leaving nearly 14.75 lakh people marooned and 14 dead as of Saturday.

Fifty-nine upazilas in 16 districts have so far been affected due to the onslaught of floods.

The districts are Sirajganj, Bogra, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari,

Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Sunamganj, Jamalpur, Faridpur,Rajbari, Tangail, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Manikganj and Rajshahi.

According to an official report, 14 people have so far died and a total of 3,93,496 families have been affected by the floods in those districts.

The government, meanwhile, released Taka 5.50 crore and 13,000 tonnes of rice for the flood-hit districts, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya told a press briefing on Saturday.
