Hasnat first person shown arrested in Gulshan attack case

Dhaka: Former teacher of North South University (NSU) Abul Hasnat Rezaul Karim was shown arrested on Saturday in a case filed over the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in the Dhaka North City’s Gulshan area. 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said police will produce Hasnat before the court on Saturday seeking a 10-day fresh interrogation.   

Hasnat was the first person shown arrested in the case, reports news agency United News of Bangladesh.

Besides, Toronto University student Tahmid Hasib Khan will also be produced before the court with a 7-day fresh remand plea for further interrogation.  

On August 4, the duo was placed on an eight-day remand each after being arrested under section 54 of CrPc on the previous day for their suspected link to Gulshan Café attack.

Hasnat, who taught at North South University, was arrested from in front of Aarong in Gulshan and Tahmid from Bashundhara Residential Area on August 3 on suspicion of having links with Gulshan attackers, police said.

Twenty hostages, including 17 foreign nationals, were killed by militants, two police officers, five militants and one suspected associate of the attackers were killed during a commando operation inside the café on July 2.
